Wildfire destroys trees along motorway in Swabi

SWABI: A wildfire destroyed trees along the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway on Saturday, Rescue 1122 officials said. They said that they did not know the cause of the fire, but as soon as they were informed by the local people, a fire brigade rushed to the spot and put out the blaze. Meanwhile, the police arrested a man and recovered over four kilogrammes of charas from him here on Saturday. SHO Yar Hussain police station Abdul Wali Khan told Dawn that they erected a blockade on the Yar Hussain-Chota Lahor Road as there had prior information that contraband would be snuggled on a motorcycle. He said when police signaled a suspected motorcyclist to stop he tried to speed away, but the police overpowered him. SHO Wali said over 4.4kg of charas wrapped in plastic bags and placed beneath the driver’s seat was recovered and the smuggler, Wajid Ali, arrested. The police officer said the accused was supplying the contraband to different regions.
