SARGODHA: The local flour mills association on Tuesday went on a strike by stopping the sale of flour at the government rate and suspended the supply throughout the city. Muhammad Rafique, an office-bearer of the association, pointed out that the price of wheat is between Rs3,000 and Rs3,200 per 40kg, while the government is forcing the millers to sell flour at Rs780 per 10kg. The prices of wheat should be kept at Rs2,750 for availability of flour at the government fixed rate. He said: “If the government does not accept our demands, this strike will continue for an indefinite period. Every city has different rates of wheat and flour.” Sargodha police have arrested 88 proclaimed offenders and registered 86 cases against those possessing illegal weapons during 10 days of November. Police claimed to have recovered 10 kalashnikovs, 10 rifles, 18 guns, 47 pistols of 30 bore and 598 bullets and cartridges. Similarly, 22 kilograms of hashish and 1,400 litres of alcohol were recovered in 54 cases of drug dealers. A speeding van collided with another vehicle resulting in critical injuries to six passengers, including a two-year-old girl and two women who were shifted to the hospital. The condition of two of the injured is said to be serious. The accident occurred near the 84 NB drainage bridge when a speeding passenger wagon traveling from Sahiwal to Sargodha attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided head-on with an oncoming wagon. The injured passengers were identified as Khurram, Muhammad Luqman, Muhammad Irfan from Kot Ahmad Khan, Umbreen Bibi from Sahiwal, Sajda Bibi and Zanbeel Mubeen.
