Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy's 'Shrek 5' release postpones

The all-new film, which is scheduled to release in 2026, has been delayed. Backed by Universal Pictures, Walt Dohrn directorial will be bringing back Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz to reprise the role of donkey and Princess Fiona respectively. was originally slated to release in theaters on July 1, 2026. But the makers have publicized a new release, however, they did not really mention the reason behind the decision. The new sequel to animated franchise will be coming out 16 years after the fourth installment on December 23, 2026. Filmmaker Walt, who worked in the franchise as a writer and artist on the second and third films, will now be returning to create the magic on screen as the director. The fifth entry was initially confirmed by Murphy in an interview where he opened that the work on has begun. While talking to , the 63-year-old comedian stated: “We started doing 'Shrek' four or five months ago.” “I recorded the first act, and we’ll be doing it this year. We’ll finish it up”, he added. is an animated comedy fantasy franchise which is based on William Steig’s picture book for children of the same name.
