The Afghan Taliban’s acting minister for refugees, Khalil Rahman Haqqani, and six other people were killed in an explosion in the capital Kabul on Wednesday, his nephew Anas Haqqani said. The Taliban spokesperson said in a statement that Khalil had been killed by the banned Islamic State (IS) militant group, who did not immediately claim responsibility for the attack. “We lost a very brave mujahid,” Anas Haqqani told . “We will never forget him and his sacrifice.” “Unfortunately an explosion happened at the Ministry of Refugees and minister Khalil Rahman Haqqani has been martyred along with some of his colleagues,” a government source told , requesting not to be named.
