TAXILA: Police claimed to have arrested a man who had been at large after allegedly killing three persons eight years ago. Waseem Akram was arrested in Bahrain and brought back to Pakistan. A police spokesman on Tuesday said the suspect, a native of Batkhela in district Malakand, was wanted for killing three persons, including his brother-in-law, over a family dispute on June 16, 2016. Despite efforts by the Fatehjhang police, the suspect managed to escape arrest. The police had issued an Interpol Red Notice for an international hunt that ultimately led to his arrest by Bahraini authorities, who handed him over to the Punjab police. Meanwhile, police on Tuesday registered a case against the contactor and a road department official for negligence which caused the death of two motorcyclists on Pindigheb-Talagang road near Dhalian Chowk on November 9. According to first investigation report (FIR) registered under section 322, 431 and 427 Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), Malik Khazir Hayat reported to the police that his son Asad Mehmood along with his friend Kamran Zahoor was going on his motorcycle when they fell into a ditch dug up to lay a drainage line and died on the spot. He added that due to negligence and lack of safety and precautionary measures by the contractor Hayat Mohammad, his son Qaisar Hayat and subdivisional officer road department Shahid Mehmood, the accident led to the death of the two persons. Subsequently, the police registered a case and launched an investigation.
