ISLAMABAD: Zainul Abideen and his five college friends, who had travelled all the way from Kohat to the capital to attend the annual Education Expo, were all praise of the event, saying that they were able to get all the information about international universities they needed. Around 70 universities, majority of which were foreign, as well as the United States Education Foundation in Pakistan and British Council, had set up their stalls at the expo held at Serena Hotel on Tuesday. Zainul Abideen and his 12 friends who were from Garrison Cadet College Kohat, termed the expo a useful platform for students seeking information about various courses and scholarships at best national and international universities. “We are students of pre-engineering and we want to complete graduation from a reputed international university; today we got valuable information,” Zainul Abideen said. Another student, Amna Shafique, who came from sector G-11, said the expo was very informative and helpful for students to explore opportunities of getting education in foreign countries. “I want to get admission to an American university, and I am happy that I got the required information today,” she added. Throughout the day, students and in many cases their parents, kept visiting the venue to seek academic and career guidance from representatives of national and international universities. They interacted with representatives of universities and discussed with them various higher education programmes, scholarships and admission criteria. “The response [of students] is decent,” said Helen Khan, a representative of University of Waterloo Canada. Similarly, Javeria Abbas, a representative of National University of Modern Languages (Numl), was also satisfied with the response. “Many students were seeking information about our language programmes as well as other BS programmes,” she added. The education expo is an annual feature of Media Group and is held every year in Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore.
