JCP likely to take up appointments at SHC, PHC on Dec 6

ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) is likely to meet on Dec 6 to consider nominations of 21 individuals, including judges and lawyers, for the position of additional judges of the Sindh High Court (SHC) and the Peshawar High Court (PHC). Headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi, the JCP is expected to convene its meeting in the Supreme Court building on Dec 6 to nominate those recommended for the coveted judicial offices from the subordinate judiciary as well as the legal fraternity. The suggestion to convene the next JCP meeting was floated by CJP Afridi on Monday during the commission’s meeting that considered appointment of the . Of the 21 nominations to fill positions at the two high courts, 12 candidates will be picked for elevation to become SHC’s additional judges and nine individuals for the vacancies of PHC additional judges. The names of Suresh Kumar, Khalid Hussain Shahani, Obaidur Rehman Khan, Rafiq Ahmed Kalwar, Umaimah Anwar Khan, Muhammad Osman Ali Hadi, Muhammad Umar Lakhani, Mansoor Ali Ghangro, Parkash Kumar, Zeeshan Abdullah, Muhammad Zeeshan Adhi and Muhammad Jaffer Raza have been proposed by SHC Chief Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui along with recommendations, remarks and proformas and other relevant documents. For the PHC, the JCP will consider the nomination of district and sessions judge Kaleem Arshad, Farah Jamshed, Inamullah Khan, Supreme Court advocates Junaid Anwar, Syed Mudasser Ameer, Aurangzeb, Qazi Jawad Ehsanullah, Salahuddin and Sadiq Ali. Their names have been suggested by PHC Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim along with relevant documents.
