LAKKI MARWAT: A police party narrowly escaped an attack by assailants in the Janikhel area of Bannu district on Wednesday. An official said unknown miscreants opened fire on a police party when it was on a patrolling duty near Shaktokai Sardikhel area. He said the policemen remained unhurt, while the van was damaged. The assailants fled when police retaliated, he said, adding a large police contingent reached the area and launched a search for the attackers. Meanwhile, former employees of tehsil municipal administrations held a demonstration in Bannu city on Wednesday against non-payment of their pensions. The protesters gathered outside the press club building and raised slogans in favour of their demand. Speaking on the occasion, Jamaat-i-Islami, Bannu chapter chief Mohammad Ajmal Khan and all pensioners’ labour union chairman Ghulam Diaz Khan Sikandari said retired municipal employees had not been paid pension for last several months. They warned the former employees would expand their protest if they were not paid pensions without delay.
