National junior badminton reaches semi-final stage

LAHORE: The boys’ and girls’ events in the Under-19 category of the National Junior Badminton Championship, ongoing here at the Nishtar Sports Complex, entered the semi-final stage on Wednesday. The U-15 and U-17 competitions also reached the quarter-finals. In the U-19 men’s singles Inayat Fareed, M. Tahir Subhani, Abdullah Tahir, Haroon Khuram, Mohammad Ahmad Gujjar and Junaid Tariq — all from Punjab — made the last four. Mohammad Hashir and Mohammad Taimur from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also qualified for the semi-finals. U-19 men’s singles quarter-finals: Inayat Fareed (Punjab) bt Muhammad Zaid (KP) 17-21, 23-21, 21-13; M. Tahir Subhani (Punjab) bt Ibrahim Iftikhar (Islamabad) 22-20, 21-17; Abdullah Tahir (Punjab) bt Mohammad Dawood (Punjab) 21-12, 21-11; Mohammad Hashir (KP) bt Faizan Maqsood (Punjab) 19-21, 21-18, 23-21; Haroon Khuram (Punjab) bt Fahad Ahmed (KP) 14-21, 23-21, 21-14; Mohammad Ahmad Gujjar (Punjab) bt Shoaib Khan (KP) 21-9, 21-12; Mohammad Taimur (KP) bt Sanwal Shafiq (Punjab) 21-13, 21-12; Junaid Tariq (Punjab) bt Mohammad Haris (Punjab) 21-17, 21-7. U-19 women’s singles quarter-final: Mariyam Hanif (Sindh) bt Kashmine Nadeem (Punjab) 21-6, 21-6; Ammarah Ishtiaq (Army) bt Tayyaba Shafiq (Punjab) 21-9, 21-4; Hiba Tariq (Army) bt Ayesha Shafiq (Punjab) 21-12, 21-10.
