SUKKUR: Nine members of a family went missing after a taxi driver dropped them at a place on the Indus Highway in Naparkot area, Shikarpur district, a day before as they wanted to go to riverine area to meet a prospective suitor for their marriageable girl. The family consisting of two men, two women and five children left their home in Micro Colony, Sukkur, for the riverine area of Naparkot but the entire family had gone missing after the taxi dropped them in Naparkot on Wednesday, said relatives of the missing family. They said that a man in their neighborhood persuaded Aijaz Ali to visit the suitor and assured him that he would arrange marriage of his daughter with a suitable man of a landowning family settled in Naparkot. No sooner did Aijaz along with his family members reached Naparkot, the entire family went missing but they had strong suspicions the family had been abducted, they added. They said that Sukkur police had arrested the alleged scammer and were interrogating him about the episode. The missing family members included Mujib, 16; Faheem, 30; Anbreen, 28; Ghazala, 50; Ayesha, 5; Sara, 4; Yousuf, Koonj and Samreen. Neither Shirkarpur nor Kashmore police have registered the case about the missing family over jurisdictional dispute. Kashmore police said that the incident did happen in their area as according to the taxi driver, he dropped the family at Karampur Laro (turning) near Naparkot in Shikarpur district and Shikarpur police argued that since relatives of the missing family had lodged a complaint at Newpind police station in Sukkur district, it was not their case either. Officials at Newpind police station said that they had registered the complaint against the suspect who convinced Aijaz Ali to take his family to the riverine area. The victims’ relatives appealed to higher authorities to take notice of the incident and get their loved ones recovered.
