The Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo starrer, , finally released the scenes cut from its initial release in November. Fans are now able to watch the deleted scenes from the movie, which is now available in digital formats on multiple streaming and rental platforms. One particular scene, titled , been making rounds on the internet and has caused a tizzy amongst the fans. In the scene, Glinda talks about a previous moment when Elphaba urged Fiyero to help her free the lion cub from their classroom. "I would've helped you, if you needed someone, could've picked me," Glinda asks. To which Elphaba responded, "I'm sorry, it was a mistake. I won't leave you behind again." Fans flocked to X (formerly Twitter) to express their outrage for cutting out a "crucial" scene from the movie. "This is like so crucial why did they delete???" questioned one user, while another said, “Omg we were robbed, they should've kept this scene." A third user added, “this literally makes zero sense as to why they deleted this?!?! It adds so much depth to their friendship.” Previously, during an interview with , director Jon M. Chu explained why he chose to remove the scene. “The issue for us was that when Elphaba makes a promise to Glinda, it takes away the drama of waiting for the promise to actually happen," he revealed. He clarified that the scene was cut to preserve an element of surprise in the storyline. “When you get to the train scene, if she already made that promise, Elphaba is a person of her word, so she's going to invite her. Without that, I think you don't quite know [her intentions]." Chu was also worried about the length of the movie, which was already two and half hour long. “The movie was long. It still is long, and I tried to do my due diligence of getting it as thin as we could but knowing we needed those pieces,” he added. has taken in $432.9 million at the domestic box office and $643 million worldwide, making it the largest-grossing Broadway adaptation of all time. The movie also earned four Golden Globes nominations so far and is suggested for Oscars nominations as well.
