Three arrested with arms, ice drug

SHANGLA/DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The police on Saturday seized arms and ice drug and arrested three accused in separate actions in Shangla and Dera Ismail Khan. Shangla’s Alpuri police station SHO Mohammad Arif Khan told Dawn that a car was coming from Swat was stopped at the Shangla Top checkpost. He said the cops found a box from the car, which contained arms and ammunition. He said the seizure included two rifles, seven pistols, 200 cartridges and 22 magazines. SHO Arif identified the accused as Mohammad Zulfiqar, a resident of Gujjar Khan, Rawalpindi, and Jehangir Khan of Peshawar. He said the smugglers were transporting the arms to Muzaffarabad, Azad Kashmir. SHO Arif said a case was registered against the arms smugglers. Meanwhile, the excise, taxation and narcotics control department personnel in Dera on Saturday seized four kilogrammes of crystal meth (ice) from a car and arrested an accused. An official said that a joint checkpost was set up on Dera Darya Khan Bridge after receiving information about the smuggling of narcotics to Punjab. He said that a suspected car was stopped at the checkpost and on checking the personnel recovered 4kg ice from it. He identified the alleged drug smuggler as Hakim, a resident of Sukkur, Sindh. A case was registered against him.
