ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) detection teams, during last one month, checked more than 93,000 meters across the region and imposed fines exceeding Rs25.83 million on the consumers over electricity theft. Iesco Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohammad Naeem Jan said that actions against electricity thieves and their facilitators across Islamabad, Rawalpindi City, Rawalpindi Cantt, Jhelum, Attock, and Chakwal circles was going on without any discrimination. During September, Iesco’s detection teams checked more than 93,000 meters across the region. A total of 288 individuals were caught using direct electricity supply, while 28 meters were found tampered with. Based on direct electricity supply and tampered meters, Iesco’s detection teams imposed fines exceeding Rs25.83 million on the respective consumers, and police arrested 33 electricity thieves. He further said that since the start of the anti-electricity theft campaign in September 2023, fines exceeding Rs715.2 million have been imposed on 14,804 electricity thieves in Iesco region, and 2,020 thieves have been arrested by police. Chief executive also requested consumers to support in the anti-electricity theft campaign and report any electricity theft to SDO offices or Iesco helpline so timely action would be taken.
