LAKKI MARWAT: People torched the car of alleged mobile phone thieves at the venue of Tableeghi Jamaa
LAKKI MARWAT: People torched the car of alleged mobile phone thieves at the venue of Tableeghi Jamaat congregation near Paharkhel Thall area of Lakki Marwat district on Sunday. In a video clip circulating on social media platforms, a large number of people can be seen pelting the car with stones on the concluding day of the Ijtema. They then set fire to the car, turning it to ashes. According to reports, after the disappearance of a mobile phone some participants caught hold of two suspects, who were trying to escape in a car from the venue of the congregation. In no time, thousands of people gathered there and recovered a good number of stolen mobile phones from the car. The charged mob overturned the vehicle, pelted it with stones and then set it on fire. Lakki Marwat city police station SHO Asmat Niazi said that policemen, who were on duty at the venue, rescued the suspects from being lynched by the enraged crowd and shifted them to the police station. “Had the police not reached there on time the infuriated people would have set the suspects along with their vehicle on fire,” he maintained. He said that the police tried to defuse the situation but the angry people torched the car. “Later the police controlled the situation and the crowd dispersed,” he claimed. SHO Niazi said that the arrested suspects belonged to Kashmore district of the Sindh province, and the mobile phones seized from their car were in the custody of the leaders of Tableeghi Jamaat. He said that further investigations into the mobile theft incidents during the three-day religious congregation were underway.
