LAHORE: Munir Bhatti, a former Pakistan international hockey player, passed away on Friday in Rawalpindi after a prolonged fight against cancer. The Sialkot-born midfielder had a short international career during 1978-79 and was one of the members of the national squad which won the 1978 World Cup in Buenos Aires, the Asian Games and the Champions Trophy in the same year. He also represented Pakistan in the Esanda Cup, held in Perth where the greenshirts won in 1979. Meanwhile, Pakistan Hockey Federation president Tariq Bugti and secretary Rana Mujahid condoled the sad demise of Munir and prayed for the departed soul.
