Peoples Medical University for women celebrates golden jubilee

NAWABSHAH: The Peoples Medical University for Medical and Health Sciences for Women, Nawabshah, held different programs to mark the university’s golden jubilee celebrations on Wednesday. Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho said at a gathering, part of the golden jubilee, at the university that Pakistan Peoples Party had always worked for equality of women in society and focused on development of people and communities. She said that Pakistan Peoples Party founder and former premier Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto founded a medical college in Nawabshah which upgraded to university during Asif Ali Zardari’s first term as president. She said that the university was providing medical education to thousands of girls from all segments of society. The university met international standards and was providing high quality education, she said. PUMHS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Gulshan Ali Memon said that 80 per cent students were availing themselves of scholarships whereas 15pc were studying on the basis of self-finance. He said the university had a sizable number of international students from various countries whereas a couple of students of the first batch were from United States as well, who has arrived here to attend the golden jubilee ceremony. He said the university had signed agreements with two universities of the United States. MPA Marvi Rashidi, acting commissioner of Shaheed Benazirabad Sheheryar Gul Memon, Nawabshah Mayor Qazi Rasheed Bhatti, Eng Mir Mohammed Siyal and others attended the ceremony. Later, Ms Pechuho visited Nawabshah press club and inaugurated a 60kV solar power generation unit installed by government through an ADP scheme.
