KARACHI: The Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF) has initiated a scrutiny process for basketball clubs in Karachi, a key step towards reviving the sport in the city. The move follows the overdue elections of the Sindh Basketball Association, which had rendered its governing body defunct. Fresh elections were held in all divisions of Sindh except Karachi. Sindh Olympic Association took the initiative of scrutinising the clubs in Karachi and a management committee was appointed by the PBBF, who will oversee the process. The PBBF’s management committee has sought data from the former president and secretary of the Karachi Basketball Association but received no response despite reminders. The committee will now send scrutiny proforma to every club in the city in which they will be required to provide details, including player information and CNIC copies. The committee will then organise the Karachi Club Championship to validate the authenticity of the clubs. The final list of eligible clubs will be prepared for fresh elections to restore an active and effective basketball governance system in Karachi.
