SWABI: Leaders of Swabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and Gadoon Estate have said that in the last one month, 65 units were closed down in Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate (GAIE) and 15,000 workers were laid off. They were speaking at a gathering here the other day in which SCCI election results were announced. Fazal Rahim Jadoon was elected SCCI’s president, Fazal-i-Amin as senior vice-president and Nadeem Khan as vice-president. It was also announced that number of SCCI associate members had reached to 700 and corporate members to 400, making SCCI a sound body for the district industrialists. Fazal Rahim Jadoon, the newly-elected president said that political instability in the province had crippled the industry badly, industrial units closed down and workers lost their sources of livelihood. Fazal-i-Amin said that during their tenure in the next two years, they would strive for a complete revival of Gadoon Estate so that people could get jobs.
