KHYBER: Students of Postgraduate College Landi Kotal on Saturday held a protest demonstration against the college’s affiliation with Fata University. The students held their demonstration at Bacha Khan Chowk with banners and placards in their hands inscribed with slogans against the ‘uncalled for’ affiliation with the university. Justifying their college’s affiliation with Peshawar University, they insisted that the change of university affiliation by college would adversely affect the future of at least 500 students. They called upon the officials of the provincial education department and elected representatives of the district to play their role for withdrawal of the decision as it was detrimental to the academic career of local students. Primary school students of Abdar Kalay in Bara held an awareness session on climate change and its adverse effects on the environment while calling for remedial measure by the quarters concerned to save the climate from further degradation. Students’ speakers, in their short speeches, expressed their grave concern over the hazardous smoke from local factories which was polluting both the air and water, creating serious health issues. They said that rapid deforestation in Tirah and other adjoining areas alongside emission of toxic gases by both public and private vehicles were also matters of serious concern to the local residents, particularly the younger generation.
