SWABI: Khyber Pakhtunkhawa Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry has assured the management of the Bacha Khan Teaching Hospital of the government’s full support in purchasing modern equipment for better patient care. He made the assurance during a visit to the hospital on Tuesday. Accompanied by Swabi deputy commissioner Nasrullah Khan, Mr Chaudhry also visited the under-construction building of the Gajju Khan Medical College, where he was informed that work on it had been stopped for several months due to lack of funds. The chief secretary assured that the provincial government would ensure early construction the college building. Says smooth power supply to health facility to be ensured Bacha Khan Teaching Hospital is a major health facility in the district, where about 3,000 patients visit daily. Hospital’s chief executive and the medical college’s principal Prof Shamsur Rehman and other officials were also present on the occasion. “To improve patient care and the operational capacity of the hospital, the government would support its administration in purchasing modern equipment and ensuring smooth electric supply to the health facility,” he said. Mr Chaudhry visited various sections of the hospital, including ICU, dialysis unit, HIV/family care centre, and section dealing with infectious diseases. The chief secretary was informed that the hospital urgently needed an MRI machine as the existing one had gone out of order, and also an additional CT scan. He was also informed about the issue of electric supply fluctuations, which disrupted healthcare delivery. Prof Rehman informed the chief secretary about the construction delays on the college’s purpose-built building, which have been halted for several months due to financial constraints. He stated that despite these challenges, the medical college achieved a 100 per cent success rate in the Khyber Medical University’s annual examinations for three consecutive batches. Additionally, he also provided an update on the performance of the Nigar College of Nursing, which also operates on the premises of the hospital, emphasising its role in addressing the shortage of nursing staff. A man was killed and another injured when two motorcycles collided in Dagai village of Razaar on Tuesday, Rescue 1122 officials said. They said a medical team reached the spot and provided first aid to the severely injured people before shifting them to Yar Hussain Civil Hospital, where Hasnain Khan, 25, belonging to Yar Hussain village, succumbed to injuries.
