A registered voter in Arizona has sued Elon Musk and his pro-Trump super PAC in federal court, accusing them of fraud for lying about their daily $1 million giveaway, reports. The plaintiff, Jacqueline McAferty, signed Musk’s petition on October 20, after Musk said winners would be selected “randomly” from the group of people who signed his petition in support of the Constitution. However, Musk’s lawyers said on Monday in a separate court proceeding that winners were not selected “by chance” and were instead picked based on their suitability to promote the pro-Trump super PAC. “Defendants’ statements indicating that individuals who signed the petition would be chosen at random to win $1,000,000 were false, and Defendants knew those statements were false at the time they were made,” says the lawsuit, which was filed in Texas. The lawsuit further says if McAferty had been “aware that she had no chance of receiving $1,000,000,” then she wouldn’t have signed the petition and wouldn’t have provided her personal identifying information to Musk’s PAC, including her address and cell phone number. A spokesman for Musk’s super PAC did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
