HYDERABAD: A noted skin specialist of the city, Dr Parvez Iqbal Arain, has lodged a case of receiving Rs1 million extortion threats from an unknown caller on his landline and cell phones. The FIR was lodged with the Cantonment police under Sections 384, 506/2 PPC and 25 Telegraph Act vide crime No 163/24. He stated that on Dec 26, he attended a call on his landline phone at his clinic and the caller threatened him to pay Rs1m in three days or be ready to face the consequences. The doctor said that he had ignored the call. But the next day (Dec 27), he received a message on his cell phone from a number (0319-2453068) which read: ‘baqi do din good luck’. He informed that on Dec 28, he again received the message, telling the specialist that only one day was left. He said that on Dec 29, he received a call on his cell phone, but he did not attend it and then a message was sent from the same cell number, informing him that it was up to him to attend and not attend the call and that only one day was left. From tomorrow his (caller’s) work would start, he said. Earlier, police had arrested one suspected extortionist who had sent similar messages to Prof Dr Imran Ali Shaikh, a physician and faculty member of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro.
