Two women die as car plunges into Mansehra ravine

MANSEHRA: Two women were killed and three others injured when a car carrying members of a family to Mansehra from Khairabad area here plunged into a ravine after the driver lost control over it while negotiating a sharp turn. Rescue 1122 personnel retrieved the injured and the bodies from the gorge and shifted them to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, whose doctors identified the deceased as Mahnoor Bibi, 20 and Gulshan Bibi, 45. The injured, Mohammad Umair, Chanzeb and Laiba Bibi, were referred to Ayub Medical Complex Hospital in Abbottabad. In another incident, a man was killed and his two sons sustained critical injuries when lightning struck a house in Jokhain village of Chaterplan area amid heavy rain. The deceased was identified as Dilbar Ishaq, the house owner. His sons were rushed to a nearby health facility where their condition was reported to be stable. Locals spotted the body of Noman Kala, 22, and informed the police, which shifted it to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital. District police officer Shafiullah Khan Gandapur told reporters that the suspected killer, Faizan Rafique, had been arrested. He said the suspect allegedly shot dead Kala over a marriage dispute in Jarad area of the district. CHINESE SECURITY: The Upper Kohistan police have beefed up security for Chinese nationals working at the Dasu hydropower project. “We have sealed off areas leading to your residential colonies and deployed heavy contingents of personnel along the Karakoram Highway and its adjoining localities,” district police officer Mukhtar Khan told the Chinese nationals during his visit to the Saglu working site and residential camp on Sunday. Accompanied by security personnel, the DPO also held talks with the heads of various departments and internal security teams. “The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Department is taking all possible measures to ensure your security and safety,” Mr Khan told the Chinese engineers and workers. He also inspected the security alert systems, including modern gadgets, and closed-circuit cameras installed at both the working site and the residential camps. “Our force is prepared to handle any law and order situation, and you should carry out the project with peace of mind,” Mr Khan said. The DPO also addressed the police force deployed at various sections of the Dasu project and along the KKH. “You must remain vigilant while on duty here and along the KKH to thwart the nefarious designs of the country’s enemies,” Mr Khan emphasised. He directed the cops to be equipped with bulletproof jackets and helmets while patrolling KKH.
