PESHAWAR: A full-court reference was held here on Tuesday to honour Justice Shahid Khan of the Peshawar High Court on his attaining age of superannuation. Born in Charsadda on Sept 25, 1962, Justice Khan laid down robes after a judicial service spanning around 32 years starting from a civil judge-cum-judicial magistrate and culminating as a judge of the high court. Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, senior puisne judge Justice Ijaz Anwar, other judges, PHC’s registrar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa advocate general, the deputy attorney general, representatives of the KP Bar Council, the president of Peshawar High Court Bar Association, the director general of the KP Judicial Academy, the Peshawar district judge, principal officers of the Peshawar High Court, former judicial officers, and members of the legal community were in attendance. On the occasion, PHCBA president Fida Gul paid homage to Justice Khan, reflecting on his distinguished judicial career. Deputy attorney general Sanaullah also elaborated his significant contributions to justice system throughout his tenure. AG Shah Faisal Utmankhel remarked that 32 years of delivering justice was a remarkable achievement and a proud moment for any judge. He emphasised that the contributions of Justice Khan would be fondly remembered. Justice Shahid Khan expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the chief justice, judges and the legal fraternity for organising such a dignified ceremony in his honour. PHC Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim acknowledged the tireless efforts of Justice Khan in serving justice to the society. He assured that every judge of PHC was committed to delivering justice effectively and as a priority. The chief justice noted services by Justice Khan would be regarded as a significant milestone in the pursuit of justice by the high court. Justice Khan was elevated to the bench as additional judge on July 18, 2022 and was confirmed as permanent judge of the high court on April 18, 2024. He did his masters in economics and LLB from the University of Peshawar. He had held several judicial offices during his tenure as a judge of the subordinate judiciary, including that of civil judge, senior civil judge, additional district and sessions judge and district and sessions judge. He had also served special judge anti-terrorism, control of narcotics substance and accountability.
