Rivals kill six in Peshawar ambush

PESHAWAR: Six persons were killed and five injured when two vehicles came under attack here on Saturday, the police said. A police official said the people were on their way back home in two vehicles after attending a wedding function when their rivals ambushed them near Pehlawanano Pul area at around 2.30pm. The ambush, he said left five persons dead on the spot and six others injured. Another injured later died at the Lady Reading Hospital. The deceased were identified as Islam and his brother Kamran Elahi, Mohammad Tariq, Yousaf, Abbas and Ali Hassan, while the injured were identified as Bilal, Ahtesham, Abdur Rehman, Rizwan and Ashfaq. Injured Bilal told the police that they had gone to attend a wedding ceremony on Warsak Road, and were ambushed on their return. He identified the attackers as Arbab Saif Ali and Arbab Mumraiz. The police official said that the motive behind the attack was a family feud. He, however, said that an FIR of the incident was yet to be registered. Separately, unidentified attackers lobbed a hand grenade at the residence of a policeman in Naguman area on the outskirts of the provincial capital on Saturday. However, there were no causalities. The police said that unidentified persons lobbed a grenade at the residence of Rehman. The blast, the police said caused damage to the main gate of the house. An official said that police were investigating the incident.
