RAWALPINDI: The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) has postponed its anti-government protest and sit-in at Liaquat Bagh till Friday (Oct 4), which had earlier been scheduled for Sunday. The JI had announced that it would stage a protest after the government failed to fulfill the promises it made last month regarding reduction in electricity prices as well as taxes. According to the party’s Rawalpindi chapter spokesperson, the protest had been postponed in the wake of the emerging situation in Lebanon where Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah was killed in Israeli attacks. He said the protest would now be held next Friday as per plan. It may be mentioned here that the Punjab government had imposed Section 144 in Rawalpindi Division for September 28 and 29 and prohibited all political and religious gatherings. It had further directed the relevant authorities to arrest people found violating the instructions.
