KARACHI: Just a week before the local government by-election on 10 vacant seats in Karachi, the opposition Jamaat-i-Islami on Friday accused the provincial government of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Election Commission of Pakistan of “pre-poll rigging”. Speaking at a press conference at the party’s Idara Noor-i-Haq headquarters, city JI chief Monem Zafar said that the PPP government in connivance with the provincial election commission was “manipulating electoral rolls” and appointing “loyal government servants” as polling staff. Referring to acts of “pre-poll rigging”, he said that “2,080 outsiders” were shown as voters in a union committee of Liaquatabad Town.
