LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday disposed of a petition against possible arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s leader Advocate Salman Akram Raja as police said he was not required in any case. A law officer presented a report on behalf of additional IG Punjab, maintaining that Mr Raja was not wanted for arrest in any case. Based on this statement, Justice Abid Hussain Chattha disposed of the petition. Last week, the judge had restrained the Punjab police from arresting Advocate Raja until Sept 23. The petition had raised concerns that Raja could be arrested in an undisclosed case and had requested the court to order the provision of case details and issue an advance notice before any possible arrest. A lawyer for the PTI leader had alleged that the government wanted to prevent the petitioner from participating in the Lahore rally scheduled on Sept 21. He said politically-motivated cases had been registered against the petitioner.
