TAXILA: A court of law in Pindigheb town of Attock on Wednesday sentenced a man to death on two counts and imposed a fine of Rs1 million in a double murder case. The man was accused of murdering his wife and mother-in-law in village Ikhlas on Aug 12, 2022. According to prosecution, the convict’s wife, 26, a native of Tawain village, wanted divorce after developing differences with her husband a few years after marriage. The man refused to divorce her and attacked Salma with a dagger when she was going to see some family members in the village. However, she survived and subsequently, an attempted murder case was registered against the suspect at Pindigheb police station. However, the accused had been released on bail due to lack of evidence against him. Later, in July 2021, he shot dead his father-in-law Ghulam Rasool, who was father of 11 daughters. The suspect was arrested again and released on bail due to lack of evidence. On Aug 12, he shot dead his wife and her 55-year-old mother with a sophisticated weapon and fled. On September 14, 2022, police netted the suspect through human intelligence. During the three years trial, the prosecution produced substantial evidence against the nominated accused which established involvement of him in the cold blood double murder and subsequently the additional session judge Qammar Zaman Bhatti after hearing the arguments of defense and prosecution counsel announced the verdict as the convict was found guilty of killing the two women, subsequently handed down death sentence to a convict on two counts. The judge also imposed a fine Rs1 million over convict as damages. Meanwhile, police arrested a man and his son for shooting and injuring his two brothers and niece over a land dispute in Dhreek in the limits of Fatehjang police station on Wednesday. Bacha Khan told police that his brother Fazal and his son Zakir were ploughing his field with a tractor. When he and his other brother Habib and daughter tried to stop them, they took out their Kalashnikov and pistol and opened fire on them. They were later shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Fatehjang. The police arrested both accused and sent them behind bars.
