Alvi says Imran striving for independence of judiciary

PESHAWAR: Former president Dr Arif Alvi on Friday claimed that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf founding chairman Imran Khan’s all efforts were aimed at supremacy of the Constitution, rule of law and upholding of democracy. The former president expressed these views while addressing a corner meeting regarding the preparations and motivation of the workers for the Nov 24 protest of the party in Islamabad. The meeting was arranged by former provincial minister for higher education Kamran Bangash in Qazi Kallay area in his PK-82 constituency. The meeting was also addressed by MNA Asif Khan, PTI leaders Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Gul Badshah and Haji Saleem. Dr Alvi said that former prime minister Imran Khan was in prison for sins he never committed. Besides, he said that Iman Khan was also striving for the independence of judiciary and rights of the people. PTI ‘finalises’ arrangements for Islamabad protest The former president said that after seeing the zeal of Kamran Bangash and PTI supporters of his constituency, the PTI show in Islamabad would be successful, adding no one could stop them from entering Islamabad. Meanwhile, PTI lawmakers in Bajaur stepped up their efforts to bring maximum number of workers to the party’s Nov 24 protest in the federal capital, sources in the party said on Friday. They said the party’s three local lawmakers and other leaders had intensified efforts to mobilise workers for the protest. They said MPAs Dr Hamidur Rehman (PK-19), Anwarzeb Khan (PK-20) and Eng Ajmal Khan (PK-21) held meetings of workers in their homes on Thursday and Friday for the purpose. The lawmakers requested the participants to ensure their active presence in the protest gathering due to its significance. The lawmakers told the workers that maxim representation in the Islamabad gathering from the district was crucial to make the protest effective as it was the ‘final such demonstration’ for the early and dignified release of the party’s founding chairman Imran Khan from prison. In Battagram, PTI local chapter finalised ‘all arrangements’ to participate in the Nov 24 public rally in Islamabad for release of Imran Khan. A meeting held on Friday reviewed the plan for joining the main caravan of party from KP to Islamabad. The meeting was attended by MPA Taj Mohammad Khan, MNA Prince Mohammad Nawaz Khan and other local leadership and workers. The participants tasked village nazims and senior leaders with bringing more people to the rally to make it a success. They claimed that international community did not trust the present government as it had no legitimate mandate to govern the country. The meeting demanded that PTI founder and other leaders, including women, should be released from the prison at the earliest.
