MUZAFFARGARH: A man allegedly murdered his neighbour over a monetary dispute at Chak 85-TDA in Layyah on Friday. Zafar Iqbal, of Chak 99-TDA, lured Nasir under the pretense of selling a plot for Rs100,000 and killed him using a sharp instrument. The suspect later disposed of the body pieces at a different site. Police traced the suspect through mobile phone data and arrested Zafar along with the murder weapon. The body was shifted to the Lal Essan Karor Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for postmortem. The police registered a case against the suspect, who has confessed to his crime. A seminar and walk were held at the Layyah District Headquarters Hospital to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS. The event, attended by doctors, nurses, paramedics, transgenders, and civil society members, discussed the ongoing week dedicated to eliminating the deadly disease. Health Chief Executive Officer Shahid Riaz Sahrani said the hospital provides free HIV/AIDS testing, medicines and counseling. He urged citizens to avail themselves of these services and get screened for early detection and treatment. The oath-taking ceremony for the Student Council of Sardar Kaurey Khan School was held at the District Council Hall. The event also featured an internship certificate distribution at the DPO Office. The ceremony was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Quratul Ain and District Police Officer Syed Hasnain Haider. The student leadership programme aims to increase cooperation in organising academic and extracurricular activities. The ceremony included speeches, patriotic performances and presentations by students. The DC said she was very happy to see the students filled with the spirit of patriotism. She said that the students, while abiding by their oath, should support their teachers at every opportunity along with the promotion of education in the education department and their institutions. The aim of establishing the Students Council was to cooperate with their teachers and school administration in organizing teaching and learning, knowledge and literature, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in educational institutions. Principal Rana Tahir Bashir and a large audience attended the event.
