DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Deputy Commissioner Sarah Rehman has underlined the need for taking solid measures to implement the chief minister’s ‘Awami Agenda Programme’ to fully extend benefits of public welfare-oriented policies to citizens. She expressed these views while chairing a meeting to review progress on the initiative in which officials gave a detailed briefing on performance made by their respective line departments, here on Friday. She urged the officials to fulfill their responsibilities effectively and maintain a positive attitude towards the public. She highlighted the importance of the initiative and urged provision of adequate facilities to the public. District Police Officer (DPO) Nasir Mehmood said the district police were ensuring to protect the properties and lives of the people. He stated this while addressing a police Darbar at Ijaz Shaheed Police lines to listen to the complaints and problems of the police officials, a police spokesman said. Police officers and Jawans spoke about various problems including lack of accommodation and catering facilities in police stations and police lines. Addressing the policemen, he said thatallavailable resources were being utilised for the solution of problems of policepersonnel, adding that their legitimate demands would be addressed on priority basis. The DPO said that it was the basic responsibility of the police officials to ensure the protection of life and property of the citizens, and directed them to perform their official duties honestly and diligently, the spokesman added. The district administration organised a poetry recitation session to promote local culture and literature. According to a district official, poets, intellectuals, officials, and a large number of citizens attended the mushaira. Renowned poets presented their verses, which were highly appreciated by the audience. The event not only fostered literary taste but also strengthened the connection between the public and the district administration. At the end of the event, awards were presented to most prominent poets. The participants, lauding the administration’s efforts, said this literary event proved to be an important platform for promoting local culture and language.
