KP Bar Council goes on strike today against Kurram killings

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council on Friday condemned on a convoy resulting in killing scores of people mostly passengers in Kurram district and announced observing strike across the province today (Saturday). In a press release issued here, KP Bar Council set a 15-day deadline for the government to resolve the continuous law and order issue in Kurram district failing which the lawyers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would start a peace march from Peshawar to Parachinar, the district headquarter of Kurram district. It was stated that the legal fraternity would stay away from courts proceedings on Saturday. The members of the bar council demanded that aerial services of PIA and helicopters should be started for the inhabitants of Parachinar so as to ensure provision of daily use commodities there including food stuff, medicines, etc. The members expressed deep sorrow and pain over the killings including that of women and children, stating that the government and relevant law enforcing agencies miserably failed to providing security to the people. They said that it was the prime responsibility of the provincial government and local administration to safeguard life and property of people. However, they said that the provincial government instead of performing its duty was busy in political issues and Islamabad sit-ins. Meanwhile, Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA) on Friday condemned the Kurram incident and called upon the federal and provincial governments to ensure safety of general public there. An emergency meeting of the association, chaired by its president Fida Gul, was held here, which prayed for the departed souls of all those killed in the attack and also for the early recovery of injured persons. The participants stated that the government should adopt serious measures for addressing the issue of prevalent security situation in Kurram district.
