UAF enters top 50 in agriculture, forestry in QS rankings

TOBA TEK SINGH: The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) has entered the elite group of the top 50 universities in the world, securing the 49th position in the QS World University Rankings for Agriculture and Forestry. This marks an impressive leap of eight spots from last year’s 56th position. According to a press release issued by UAF, the university is also ranked 37th among South Asian universities, 202nd in Asia, and 688th globally in the overall QS World University Rankings. Vice Chancellor Dr. Muhammad Sarwar Khan congratulated the faculty, staff, Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialisation (ORIC), and the entire campus community for this significant achievement, which underscores UAF’s growing academic stature on the global stage. MEETING: Commissioner Silwat Saeed held a meeting with officials from the Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology (FIC) to discuss the replacement of two angiography machines, a gamma camera, an echocardiography machine, a new OPD block, staff accommodation, and the expansion of the emergency department and pathology lab. Executive Director Dr Hamid Saeed and Medical Superintendent Dr Nadeem briefed the commissioner on the ongoing improvements at the hospital. Commissioner Saeed emphasized the need to expedite the appointment of doctors and staff for the new ward on the fourth floor and to maintain close coordination with Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali, the government-appointed coordinator for the project. During her visit, she also inspected the pharmacy and reviewed the processes for the transparent delivery of medicines to patients’ homes through courier services. KILLED: A trainee head constable died by suicide on Friday after killing a sub-inspector (SI) at the Police Training Centre in Farooqabad, Sheikhupura. Reports said that cop Tahir, upset over being assigned difficult duties, shot and killed SI Afzal at 7am. During the incident, Tahir also shot himself, resulting in his immediate death. Tahir was a resident of Hafizabad, while SI Afzal was from Faisalabad.
