Accident claims lives of three labourers

GUJRANWALA: Three labourers were killed and one was injured on Monday when a speeding tractor-trolley ran over a motorcycle near Nala Palkhu on GT Road, Wazirabad. The four labourers traveling from Wazirabad to Gujrat for work. The deceased were identified as Sabir, of Rajanpur; Abdul Rehman, mechanic from Lowariwala, Wazirabad; and Ahmad, mechanic from Ali Nagar. Tariq, also from Rajanpur, was injured and shifted to Wazirabad Civil Hospital alongside the bodies. The driver fled the scene, leaving the tractor-trolley behind. The Wazirabad Saddar police seized the vehicle and have begun legal proceedings. The hospital conducted post-mortems and handed over the bodies to their families. Sabir’s body will be released upon his family’s arrival from Rajanpur. The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) arrested Shehbaz Goraya, junior clerk in the Education Department, for embezzling Rs1.7 million from the government treasury. According to Regional Director ACE Amjad Shahzad, the suspect colluded with Nadia Zia, an employee who used a fake degree to secure her job, to withdraw funds fraudulently. A case was already registered against them in the Anti-Corruption Department. The arrest was made under the supervision of ACE Assistant Director Akhtar Cheema. Investigations are ongoing. Unidentified people stole power cables worth millions of rupees supplying electricity to Wazirabad municipality streetlights on Monday, leaving several neighborhoods in darkness and raising security concerns. Affected areas include Mohalla Gondalpura, Sikandarpura, Dhonkal Road, Nizamabad Road, Awa Road, Mohalla Katra Mahi, Gali Arayan Wali, Chiriya Wala Mohalla and others. The theft disrupted streetlight functionality, causing inconvenience during the foggy winter days. Residents demanded action against the culprits and urgent restoration of streetlights to prevent criminal activities. The incident follows a recent theft of Rs3 million worth of power cables from the Khanqi Barrage area, for which Gepco authorities lodged a complaint at Ahmed Nagar police.
