KASUR: Two robbers were killed while six others -- four policemen and two suspects -- were injured following an ‘encounter’ on Monday in Phoolnagar police precincts. Reports said a gang of five robbers attacked a police van to get four of their accomplices released from custody. The suspects were wanted in a robbery case at Phoolnagar Sarafa bazaar where they deprived a jeweller of gold worth about Rs50 million some weeks back. The robbers also shot at and injured a policeman Naveed Ahmed. According to police, officials took four robbers including Allah Waris of Lambay Jageer, Ahmed Raza of Bonga Balochan, Mushtaq and Shakeel of Lahore for recovery of the two kilo gold in an official van on Monday. While they were on their way back to police station and reached Mega Road in Pattoki, five unidentified robbers attacked the police van with guns. During a crossfire, police found the body of a suspect Mushtaq and four cops and two robbers in injured condition. The injured suspects were identified as Ahmed Raza and Shakeel. The injured cops include SI Rasheed Ahmed, head constable Muhammad Mansha and constables Tariq and Sikander Ali. The accomplices of the robbers got Allah Waris released from police custody. The robbers also snatched an official gun from a policeman. Police shifted the body and the injured to Phoolnagar rural health centre. DPO Essa Khan formed teams for the arrest of escaped outlaws. A few hours after at Mudhkay canal bridge in Kot Radha Kishan area, the escaped robbers, including Allah Waris, confronted police at a picket. The four robbers on two bikes opened fire at police when the personnel signalled them to stop. The robbers, according to police, tried to escape while firing at the police. During a chase, police claimed exchange of firing for about 30 minutes. Later, police found robber Allah Waris injured who succumbed to his wounds on way to hospital. The DPO ordered to lodge a double murder case against the fleeing robbers.
