LAHORE: A sessions court on Friday dismissed for non-prosecution a petition by television actress Nazish Jahangir seeking pre-arrest bail in a case of alleged fraud. Aswad Haroon, a fellow actor, got the case registered with Defense-C police station in July under section 420 of PPC. The complainant alleged that Ms Jahangir had borrowed his car and Rs2.5m in cash for a project, promising to return the vehicle and the money within two months, but failed to do so even after six months passed. He alleged the actress, her accomplice Sikandar and three unidentified armed men hurled life threats at him when he was invited to a farmhouse on the pretext of returning his money and car back. Ms Jahangir was on interim pre-arrest bail for two months in the case, but the court revoked the concession of bail due to her repeated absence from the hearings. directive: The LHC has directed the IGP to decide within a month an application of a woman activist seeking compilation of a database of complainants and the witnesses of criminal FIRs. Bushra Shakeel, a widow, filed a petition before the court for a direction to the police to decide her pending application. Advocate Imran Javed argued that the Punjab police maintain a data of criminals, but there is a need to keep a database of the complainants and the witnesses of FIRs to help overcome false litigation. He stated that section 154 of CrPC describes an FIR with truth, facts and evidence, but in majority of the cases the complainants and the witnesses turn out to be a fake at a later stage. He asked the court to order the IGP to decide the pending application of the petitioner and submit a compliance report.
