CORE ISSUES: The various initiatives taken by the Punjab government reflect a positive commitment to the country’s progress, especially in underprivileged areas, like southern Punjab. However, many challenges remain, such as extreme poverty, electricity shortage, and rising fuel cost. Addressing these issues alongside broader educational reforms would provide a stronger foundation for sustainable development and improve the people’s quality of life. While the recent initiatives are commendable, a more comprehensive approach is needed for long-term growth. This is with reference to the report ‘Rs0.5m swindled out of lawyer through prank call’ (Sept 6). After reading the news, I did not know whether to laugh or cry. These kinds of scams have been going on for more than two years now. In fact, I have received such calls from persons claiming to be army and police officers. I have never been fooled by them. Now imagine that we have lawyers falling into such a trap. Amazing. Access to education is the basic right of every citizen. Regrettably, there is not a single school in Sajawal Khan Magsi village in Tando Jam where the children may acquire education and cont-ribute to the development of the country. Most of the young boys and girls are unable to gain any formal education at all. The government should set up a school in the village so that the children may learn, grow and succeed in their lives. : I am concerned over the upcoming visit of the Chinese prime minister which is scheduled in mid-October. Even in a family affair, the news of any visit or activity is kept conf-idential till the actual time arrives. But this news was released to media much before the scheduled date. Was this nec-essary? Should the dates of the visit not be kept confidential for security reasons?
