KOHAT: A one-day book festival was organised on Wednesday at Kohat University of Science and Technology (Kust) to promote the significance of paper books in the digital era. Students from various educational institutions showed great interest in the event, where publishers displayed books on science, history, literature, culture, and other subjects, many of which were purchased by visitors. The festival aimed to encourage the habit of book reading among students. The organisers said that the event aimed to preserve the centuries-old tradition of book reading to compete with computers, which bypassed the extensive paperwork to connect old and modern topics. They stressed that holding such festivals was essential to strengthen the bond with books. MPA Shafi Jan and Deputy Commissioner Abdul Akram Chitrali stated at an open court that one of the two under-construction water supply schemes would be made operational within ten days to address the drinking water issue in Boraka town. They claimed that the long-awaited drinking water problem in Boraka and its surrounding areas would be permanently resolved within a year. The open court was attended by the senior officials of the district administration, heads of line departments, elders and member of general public of Boraka, Teen Talab, Suleman Talab, Bammah, and adjacent areas. The main problems presented to them by the people of the area were related to drinking water, health, and education. The deputy commissioner issued necessary directions to the officials concerned to address these issues in the three towns. Similarly, they announced the establishment of a commission to resolve land disputes in the area as well as to tackle the irrigation problems.
