ISLAMABAD: Excise road checking staff of capital Excise and Taxation Department recovered over Rs17million during the last one month from the vehicles owners, involved in different violations of excises rules. Official of the department said, the Excise and Taxation Department has launched an operation against non-specimen registration plat, unregistered vehicle, vehicle having tinted glasses, using of police revolving light and non-payment of token tax on daily basis. Excise officers are conducting the operation at different highways, markets, marakiz, and other important places of Islamabad against the vehicles over violation of excise rules. The department took action against 385 vehicles using tinted glasses and recovered Rs4,335,000. Action was taken against 461 vehicles over unspecified and unregistered vehicle and recovered Rs10,540,414 in this regard. Besides, Rs2,199,260 tax was also recovered from the vehicles owner for not paying token tax and were defaulters. The teams confiscated nine vehicles for using police revolving light. Lights were removed from such vehicles and fine worth Rs130,000 were also imposed on their owners. Director Excise and Taxation Department Bilal Azam appealed to the citizens to remove non-pattern number plate and tinted glasses from their vehicles to avoid any action, including fine against them by authority. The use of HID light is illegal in civilian vehicles and asked the motorists to avoid using same, Mr Azam said. He also asked the motorists to pay the token tax and get their unregistered vehicles registered immediately, he said, adding that excise department will continue to take action against vehicles that do not comply with excise rules in Islamabad.
