LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court on Wednesday further extended the physical remand of a woman TikToker who claimed to be the mother of the alleged ‘rape victim’ of Punjab College. Gulberg police presented suspect Sara Khan before the court on expiry of her previous six-day remand. The investigating officer stated before the court one out of two mobile phones of the suspect had been recovered from Multan. He said further custody of the suspect was required for the recovery of the cellular phone and multiple forensic examinations. A lawyer for the suspect argued that the police came with the same old grounds for the remand. He asked the court to send the woman to jail on judicial remand. However, ATC-I Judge Manzer Ali Gill extended the physical remand of the suspect for six days. The judge reiterated that the woman suspect would remain in police custody from sunrise to sunset and for rest would remain in jail on judicial custody. The police alleged that the suspect recorded a video claiming that she was the mother of an alleged rape victim and uploaded it on her TikTok handle. It said the video went viral and added to the controversy over the alleged rape case. The suspect, who is a resident of Karachi with a permanent address in Multan, has been charged with making a false claim, inciting public sentiment against the government authorities and urging the people to violence. The Lahore High Court on Wednesday granted post-arrest bail to PTI leader Musarrat Jamshed Cheema in a case of violence related to Oct 6 protest by the party. A two-judge bench comprising Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi and Justice Muhammad Amjad Rafiq ordered the release of Ms Cheema subject to furnishing of bail bonds.
