HYDERABAD: Sindh Taraqqi-pasand Party chairman Dr Qadir Magsi has said that his party and Sindh people will not accept the project for constructing six canals on Indus River, which aim to push 70 million people of the province to a slow death. He said at a meeting of the party’s central committee here on Tuesday that STP would launch a public mobilisation campaign against the projects. Besides, a protest campaign would be launched at union council level on basic issues of unemployment, health, education, corruption and narcotics trade, he said. He said that Sindh at present was in need of a vibrant and strong political organisation with roots in masses, which launched political struggle for Sindh’s fundamental rights. Sindh was not on the agenda of any federal party and that was the reason that anti- Sindh decisions were taken with impunity, he said. He said that people of Sindh should not pin hopes on any federal party, including Pakistan Peoples Party. All Sindh friendly forces should get united and launch a struggle against conspiracies being hatched against the province, he said. He said that STP would foil all the conspiracies aimed at spreading hate and extremism in Sindh. The party would start public mobilisation campaign to counter all the illegal and unconstitutional decisions being thrust over Sindh, he said. The 30th national congress of STP reelected Dr Qadir Magsi as its chairman for another term on Sunday. Dr Magsi said in his address after his reelection that there was dacoits’ rule in many districts. The dacoits were being patronised by ruling elite, who had had amassed fortunes through corruption while people were facing hunger and starvation, he said. He said that people of Sindh had the first right over Indus River and they would not allow construction of any new dam or canals over the river, which were part of a larger conspiracy to deprive Sindh of its share in water. He rejected proposed amendments to Irsa Act. The congress also elected Abdul Fatah Samejo as senior vice chairman, Hyder Shahani and Nisar Keerio as vice chairmen, Hoat Khan Gadhi as secretary general, Hameed Memon as deputy general secretary, Qadir Channa as joint secretary, Jam Shaukat Abro as finance secretary, Imtiaz Samoo as information secretary and Dr Soomar Magsi as coordination secretary.
