Shoaib to face Muzammil in ranking tennis decider

ISLAMABAD: Muzammil Murtaza ousted veteran Aqeel Khan to set the final date with Mohammad Shoaib at the 10th Begum Kulsum Saifullah Khan National Ranking Tennis Championships here at the PTF-SDA Tennis Complex on Saturday. Muzammil’s work was cut short as the 44-year-old Aqeel retired following an injury with the score being 6-4, 4-1. Meanwhile Shoaib downed Yousaf Khalil 6-4, 6-4 in the other last-four clash. The duo of Muzammil and Shoaib also reigned supreme in the doubles final as the duo routed the pair of Barkatullah and Yousuf 6-2, 6-1 to clinch the title. AbuBakar Talha pulled off an amazing upset in the Under-18 final against Bilal Asim, claiming the title with a 6-4, 6-4 scoreline. In the women’s semi-finals, Soha Ali edged Noor Malik 7-6(5), 6-3, while Amna Ali Qayum breezed past Meheq Khokhar 6-2, 6-4 to confirm the final berths. Hassan Usmani and Ruhab Faisal advanced to the Under-14 decider following convincing wins while Shayan Afridi booked the final spot against Rashid Ali in the Under-12 category.
