The announcement was made during a jirga held here the other day with a number of tribal elders, politicians and activists of civil society in attendance. The jirga forbade any adverse action against students, including those of seminaries, and government servants if a clash occurred between tribes occurred. The participants also demanded of the police to ensure that no one indulged in firing in the air during night, especially at festive occasions, as it not only inconvenienced residents but also could lead to injuries or deaths. They said the violators of the ban should be fined. “We will deal with drug dealers in accordance with our local traditions if they are found guilty of sale and purchase of heroin and ice drug, especially to students,” the participants resolved. It was also decided that all land and money disputes would be referred to the jirga for speedy resolution, and that the forum would be convened regularly to look into these issues.
