CHARSADDA: Awami National Party president Aimal Wali Khan on Friday said that his party would support any constitutional amendment that was meant for the supremacy of parliament. “We [ANP] have always strived for the supremacy of parliament, democracy and democratic norms in the country and will continue doing so,” Mr Aimal told reporters here. He said that the Supreme Court had always sided with military dictators and it was time to block all such unconstitutional steps. The ANP leader said that his party would support any legislation brought in for the supremacy of parliament. He said that the ANP had always demanded the formation of a constitutional court in the country. “ In the 1990s, our leader Asfandyar Wali Khan called for the formation of a constitutional court in light of the millions of pending cases,” he said. Mr Aimal said that the Charter of Democracy also advocated for the constitutional court. He said that efforts were under way to turn Khyber Pakhtunkhwa into a “dump of explosives” yet again. “The provincial government has been handed over to a party with a militant ideology. This party brought at least 40,000 militants back to the province,” he said. The ANP leader later addressed a ceremonyin the Battagram area where political activists announced the joining of the ANP.
