Tributes paid to late journalists

SUKKUR: To pay tributes to the late journalists from 1961 to Oct 31, 2024, Sukkur Press Club organised a mega programme called “Youm-i-Yaadgrar — Hum Naheen Bholeingay”. In the history of journalism, first time in Sukkur, the press club held such an event in which family members of the late newsmen were given awards. More than 500 guests and dignitaries, including those working in social organisations, members of trade bodies and politicians, attended the mega event. Journalists from all districts of upper Sindh area, Benazirabad (Nawabshah to Kashmore), were invited. Special guests on the occasion were Dr Rahim Bakhsh Bhatti, director of Gambat Institute of Medical Science (GIMS), and Dr Iqbal, director SIUT, and chairman district council Sukkur, Kumail Haidar Shah. The speakers on the occasion highlighted the services of the late journalists who wrote truths through thick and thin. They said reporters, editors and cameramen today faced several problems, including threats to their life. Even some eminent journalists were shot dead for writing truth, they added.
