HYDERABAD: Communist Party of Pakistan (CPP) secretary general comrade Imdad Kazi has said that the way 26th Amendment was rushed through the parliament clearly showed that Pakistan had been converted into a ‘garrison state’. In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Kazi said that no one would enjoy freedom of expression or writing now and even people would be unable to play political role in line with their conscience. All kind of fundamental rights would be snatched, he said. Kazi, who is also convener of the Popular Left Alliance, said that unbridled powers were given to certain forces to curtail civil liberties and amend Army Act to allow agencies to pick people for no reasons under constitutional cover. Adding that their hold on judiciary had been strengthened, he described the role played by the ruling coalition as shameful. Pro-public parties were not being tolerated, he said.
