LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court on Saturday extended the pre-arrest bail of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf MPA Hafiz Farhat Abbas and 39 activists in the Jinnah House attack and burning police vehicles during the May 9 riots. The MPA and the party workers appeared before the court on expiry of their pre-arrest bail. Duty Judge Arshad Javed extended the bail of Abbas in the police vehicles burning case till Oct 25. The judge extended the bail of the PTI workers in the main FIR of Jinnah House attack till Oct 23. Sarwar Road police had registered a case against the leaders and the workers of the PTI for attacking and vandalising the corps commander’s residence, also known as Jinnah House, during the protests of May 9 last year against the arrest of former premier Imran Khan. HONEY-TRAP: An anti-terrorism court on Saturday reserved its verdict on an application of playwright Khalilur Rehman Qamar seeking release of money and car’s registration book recovered from the suspects involved in his alleged kidnapping and honey-trap. A prosecutor opposed the release of the seized money and car, arguing that the case was still pending and the items should remain with the police until the investigation was complete. However, the prosecutor agreed that the registration book of the car could be handed over to the complainant. Qamar’s lawyer Mudassir Chaudhry appeared in the court. He asked the court that the playwright’s money and the car’s registration book be returned to him. He argued that the police had recovered Rs240,000 and the car’s registration book from the suspects. He stated that the suspects had withdrawn money from the complainant’s bank account using his ATM. After hearing the arguments, Duty Judge Arshad Javed reserved his verdict on the application. The suspects in the case, including Amna Arooj, Hassan Shah, and Rafiq alias Feeki are in judicial custody. They have been charged with the kidnapping of the playwright.
