ISLAMABAD: Outspoken PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat on Wednesday expressed regret over his remarks he made against deputy inspector general (DIG) of Islamabad police in the National Assembly session held in September. Mr Marwat expressed regret during an audience with the DIG at his office. According to a video on social media, Mr Marwat and DIG Operations Syed Ali Raza stood side by side. Mr Marwat said: “Today, I have come to the office of DIG Operations Islamabad Syed Ali Raza for two reasons one is that what I had spoken about him on the floor of the National Assembly was not appropriate. I was angry as I was kept in the lockups which was not usually done to MNAs. Later, I came to know that Ali Raza is ‘Syed’ and being a Syed, those words must have hurt him and his family. “The other reason which compelled me to come to the office because the DIG stands for the rights of people,” he added. “I have come to him today to say sorry to him, as I did not want to disgrace him and his family because what I said at that time was out of anger. Second thing is that he is DIG Operations Islamabad, and a part of a system and such person should be encouraged if he stands by the law. “Being a Syed, and being a very good officer, I visited him. He has also embraced me and he will respect him as a younger brother,” Mr Marwat said.
