CHARSADDA: District Population Officer Fazal Azim Khan said that his department was taking all possible steps to promote family planning among local people for sustainable development. While talking to journalists here on Sunday, he said that our country was facing various challenges, including non-compliance with family planning methods. He said that due to imbalance in population growth, the country was struggling to make remarkable progress, especially in education and health sectors. He called upon the ulema and religious scholars to draw guidelines according to the teaching of Islam for bringing about a positive change in people’s opinion on family planning. He stressed that religious scholars and intellectuals could play a pivotal role in overcoming the barriers to family planning. Mr Khan said series of debates on the subject would continue and similar meetings were also being held in educational institutions to create awareness about population control. Students of a local private school made a study visit to the Provincial Assembly buildings and officials concerned provided them with detailed information regarding legislative process and assembly proceedings. On this occasion, former speaker MPA Mushtaq Ghani, MPA Tariq Awan and others briefed the students about assembly’s working. During the study tour, the students observed the ongoing session of the assembly and listened to the speeches and debates of the legislators. The students also met with the Provincial Assembly’s Speaker Babar Saleem Swati and he answered various queries of the students.
